4 Great Ways
To Add A Professional Karaoke System To Your Home

Do you like to sing karaoke? I HATED KARAOKE that was until I lived in Japan in 1995. There I was introduced to my first Professional Karaoke System.

Ever since that time I love to sing karaoke but only in the privacy of my home of course.

You know with a little effort you can make your own karaoke room and if that's not for you then at least you can get a Professional Karaoke System for your basement.

The 4 basic ways to add a Professional Karaoke System to your home.

  • Portable / All In One System
  • DVD/CD+G Karaoke Machines and Players
  • Online Karaoke
  • Computer Karaoke

There are some other ways. One different way is to buy a karaoke mixer. But the 4 listed above would fit nicely into any game room and are pretty easy to set up and sing.

    Portable / All In One

If you're looking for the best karaoke system for the money and ease of use then this is the way to go.

The Portable / All In One Karaoke System is exactly as the name describes. The system itself looks like a large type box and includes the following:

    • Speakers
    • Amplifiers
    • The Player Itself
    • Built in tv screen (on some models)
    • Microphone (included in some models)

If this type of professional karaoke system does not have a TV then you'll have to connect it to one. Also you'll need to plug it in. Besides that you'll be up and ready to go. Just don't forget to buy the music!

    Karaoke Machine / Player

The Karaoke Machine / Player is better in quality than the portable player. But you must supply your own TV, speakers, microphones and so on. Some of these systems will come with music already loaded on them depending on which you buy.

Basically they look like a large CD/DVD Player. Except that it's for Karaoke. Therefore it'll have places to plug in microphones and output tv cables, speakers and more.

This Professional Karaoke System is just that. Very professional! If you have a nice amp and speaker system in your home game room than this would be the system to get.

As mentioned above, music may already be loaded onto this system. But if not don't worry. It's like a CD Player so you can buy the karaoke music CDs and use them with this system. Plus most systems will accept a variety of different music formats. Before buying make sure it accepts the format you plan to use. Here are examples of formats that this professional karaoke system may use.

    • CD
    • CD+G = Compact Disc + Graphics
    • CDR
    • CDRW
    • DVD
    • DVDR
    • DVIX
    • SVCD
    • HDCD
    • MP3
    • VCD

The CD+G basically puts the lyrics onto your tv screen for all to see. That way you can sing any song.

There are many different varieties of Karaoke Machines / Players out there. Some are for USA music only while others will play music from anywhere in the world. Make sure you buy the one that will play the music you want to sing.

    Online Karaoke

By far this Professional Karaoke System is my favorite. Online Karaoke gives you the ability to sing just about any song without having to buy the CDs themselves.

Incidently I was recently at a friend's home and he had built a Japanese style karaoke box in his basement. Very cool by the way!

When I walked into the room I was whisked back to my days living in Japan. But one thing was missing, the TV for karaoke. What I found out was that he subscribed to an online karaoke service from Japan. Therefore all the music he could ever want was at his fingertips on the computer over the internet.

He just typed in the song title, English or Japanese and it came up and played the music and displayed the lyrics right across your computer screen.

Of course you may need to download some software depending on the service you choose. Also you may need to pay a fee. Usually the fee is minimal though. Say about $5 - $10 dollars a month. But if you like to sing then it's worth it. There are some free online karaoke sites out there but remember you get what you pay for. I'm not saying they're bad because I've personally never used a free site. But the Japanese pay site I've used definately works great!

You'll also need a high-speed internet connection with plenty of hard drive space so the music and lyrics flow smoothly!

You can find all the information you need right at the website of the online karaoke system you'll use.

Whether it's free online karaoke or online karaoke with a fee, it's a great system. Don't forget though, you'll need your own speakers and microphones and so on. Unless of course you just want to sing out loud with no speakers, which is fine also.

    Computer Karaoke

The last professional karaoke system is Computer Karaoke. Similar to Online Karaoke except after you've downloaded the software and music then there is no need to be online.

First you must download some kind of computer karaoke software.

Next you must download the song files you'd like to sing. Most likely those song files will be zipped and you'll need to un-zip them before you can use them.

This is fairly simple as most computer systems now days will have an un-zipping program built right in.

Lastly you can sing your heart out. No need for a deluxe speaker and microphone system. Just sit at your work desk and sing.

As you can see, this professional karaoke system is the most basic and easy to use. Don't be afraid to try them out before buying a larger system because you may just like computer karaoke better.

    Karaoke Can Be Fun...

Especially when you're singing with family and friends. Having it in your own home is so much better than singing at a bar in front of strangers. Try it at your next party. Either use the online system, buy a professional karaoke system or you can even rent one for a trial before buying.

Don't be shy. Just sing! If need be, dim the lights and if you're over 21 maybe a drink or two would help to cure your shyness. In any case everyone will probably be an amateur anyway and you'll have lots of fun.

As this page opened I said I was a KARAOKE HATER. Now I'm a KARAOKE LOVER! Being the shy person I was before I never would have thought in a million years that I'd sing karaoke. But I did and I loved it. You should give it a try. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Remember a Professional Karaoke System isn't the only good thing you should include in your game room design.
