A table moving during play may happen if it’s not a heavy foosball table. What if your child is watching the game from the corner and the table leg pinches him or her. That may be a stretch of the imagination but safety is important in a family game room.
Those are two good things to think about when when deciding if you want a heavy or light foosball game table.
What is the weight of an average foosball table you ask? Well we’ve compiled an average for you.
Considering there are various makers, designs and materials used in the construction of a foosball table we’ve compiled all the numbers and came up with the following average.
Average Weight = Around 205 Pounds.
On the light end you’ll find games weighing around 130 pounds. On the heavy end the foosball tables can be 300 – 400 pounds each.
Try a few out. You can do that at some sporting good stores. Otherwise try your local game center to get a feel for the heavy and light versions of foosball game tables.
Size
In all honesty unless you want a kids version or cheaper foosball table then the sizes are almost always the same.
The average size of the standard tables are as follows:
Average Length = 56 inches.
Average Width = 30 inches.
Average Height = 35 inches.
There are variances, but these are the averages of a standard table.
Foosball Game Tables
Colors and Designs.
If you haven’t been around the foosball world since you were a child then you may be surprised. The colors and designs available are amazing. From themed tables to the old Victorian classic styles you’ll find one that will fit into your game room design.
Colors and Designs.
Yes it may take time to find the exact one you want. But why go with something that is “ok”. When you could go with something unique and fun. One you’ll truly enjoy each and every time you play.
Colors
The different colors, shades and types of wood that each table uses vary. The quality and overall price of the table will actually depend on the type of wood used in its construction.
Whether it’s Beach Wood, Cherry Wood, Maple, Walnut or Honey Oak, foosball tables have it all.
You can find that the overall color may depend on the type of finish used to cover the wood. They can be light, dark or a medium grain somewhere in between.
Now you may also see tables that look like a natural wood but are actually a “laminate” coating on the outside.
Mahogany laminate is popular and really gives your foosball table a classy look.
Moving away from the “wood” colored theme. You can find other laminate colors that range from a basic black to multi-colored.
Whether you want something that is red, white and blue. Or a foosball table that is orange and yellow or yellow and black. They're out there!
Some tables out there come in a total blue or red color. And there are ones that are striped in various different colors.
To continue there are also some “Contemporary” looking foosball tables that have a grayish/blue tint to them. Perfect if you have a modern game room in your home.
Always remember that you may find the color you want but it may not be on the best foosball table for your playing needs. Take all aspects of the table into consideration before purchasing.
Designs
Mostly you’ll find your “basic” box shaped foosball game table. But there are some beyond the ordinary.
Covering the box shaped ones first. You usually have a choice of rounded edges or sharp corners. You may make your choice depending on whether you have children in your home for safety reasons.
A few even have an “oval” shape to them instead of the box look. I’ve seen this style referred to as an “arena style” foosball table. I find this style to be the most appealing!
Besides the table top themselves you’ll find that the legs on each different table may also vary.
Mostly you’ll find that the legs are made of think block wood and go straight down. While some have legs crisscrossing in an “X” type fashion.
Then there are the ones where the legs are attached more toward the inside. On these ones the legs come outward toward the players on an angle. These legs are usually not as thick as the straight down wood block legs.
And a few others have supporting beams going from leg to leg to give the foosball table extra support.
One last kind out there has the V-cut legs on either side that are supported by end panels instead of a bar or beam.
What To Look For
Before Buying
Below we have a list that will help you when searching out the perfect foosball game table. Although this list doesn’t contain everything you may have in mind. It’s a great place to start.
Before Buying
Questions To Ask Yourself Before Buying
- Are the legs adjustable or not? In case you have a slightly uneven floor adjustable legs will be what you’ll need.
- Does it have a side ball return? Will make the game a little faster.
- Are the men counter balanced? Helps in the playing of the game.
- What type of playing field does the game have? Is it Laminate? Will the ball roll smoothly?
- Are the handles easy to grip? Do I prefer wooden or rubber handles?
- Do the legs have “rubber boots” on them to stop the game from sliding?
- Is there one goalie on the goal rod? That is the traditional version of foosball.
- If there is only one goalie. Does the foosball game come with corner inserts? This is so the ball won’t get stuck in the corner. If the one goalie game does not have corner inserts then the ball may get stuck there sometimes.
- Are there three goalies on the goal rod? The modern foosball table has three goalies and it’s often used in foosball tournaments. This keeps the game moving faster and the ball won’t get stuck in the corner.
- Are the rods telescopic or chrome plated steel? Telescopic means that the rods themselves do not go out the other end of the table. Just like a telescope they fold up and do not extend into the other players area. This is a nice safety feature. I’m sure many of us have been bopped in the head by those traditional foosball table rods as kids. I know I have.
- Is each player hand painted? This way each player will look different.
- Is the playing field below a tempered glass? Having a tempered glass over the field stops the ball from flying out. Also it keeps hands from reaching in. You don’t see many of these but they’re out there.
