Creative Basement Ceiling Ideas
Creative Basement Ceiling Ideas Should Be Fun, Unique To Your Room and Of Course, Creative!
We all know about the usual drop ceilings or dry wall ceilings and those are very nice basement ceilings, they get the job done. But if you’re looking for something a little different, fun or whimsical then you need to think outside the box and write down all the ideas you come up with no matter how crazy you think they seem. Then review your list and cross out the totally undoable. The ones that are even half doable leave on the list and then brainstorm how it can be done, here are some ideas.
Colorful, Themed and Other
Creative Basement Ceiling Ideas
Colorful Drop Down
Ceiling Tiles
This is a rather simple way to bring some fun into your room. Did you know you can paint most drop down ceiling tiles? That alone can really spice up a dull basement game room or home theater. Mix and match the colors to your walls, game room decorations or game room theme.
Make sure prime the ceiling tiles first if you want a nice finished look to them. Also be careful of how much paint they suck up as they may become pretty heavy also, spray painting may be the optimal way to paint them. Also you may lose a little of the acoustics when you paint your tiles but a fresh look is always very cool.
Clear Ceiling Tiles
This is another cool idea! You can use clear ceiling tiles in various places in your basement game room to actually display decorations, including posters and more. Or you can make your whole basement clear, although that may defeat the purpose of having a drop down ceiling. You could also add some colorful lights above the clear tiles for added fun when the lights are dim.
Use Bamboo Poles
Attach Bamboo Poles to your joists. Simply make a ceiling of bamboo poles, that would be great for an Asian or Beach Themed Room.
Use Bamboo or Wood Blinds
This can be tricky but fun. You simply staple the blinds up on each end and let them hang in the middle. The further apart your staple the each end of the blind the less drop down effect you have. The closer you staple the ends together the more the middle will drop down into your room. Just consider how much space you have, but this makes for a unique look and feel.
Attach Poster Frames
For Creative Basement Ceiling Ideas
Here’s another way to go instead of a drop down ceiling. But wood poster frames and hang all four corners from the ceiling so the poster frame, picture side is facing the floor. When visitors look up they’ll see various posters. This can be really fun. Simply use fishing line or other strong type of string to hold them up. You don’t have to have them tight together either, space them out a foot apart or so as they may sway in the wind if you have windows or when the heater kicks on in the winter. So make sure they’re attached nice and tight so they won’t fall down.
Blackout and Whiteout Ceilings
Two more creative basement ceiling ideas are both blackout and whiteout basement ceilings. Simply paint everything on your ceiling either black or white including joists, pipes etc. This works nice with unfinished ceilings.
I recommend buying a nice paint spray gun to do the job especially if you have a large basement. Doing it with a brush is very hard and tiring but can be done if you want.
