The Best Family Board Games

The Best Family Board Games are the games that get the whole family involved from young to old. You have the traditional board games of checkers and chess and those are fun but to get the whole family involved you need board games that can accommodate more than a couple players. Also they need to be fun games otherwise people will soon be bored with the board game you’re playing.

And just because I’m talking about The Best Family Board Games doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a “board” included with the game. There are many family party games that are considered “board games” yet have no board to play on as a Monopoly or Sorry Board Game would have. Below you’ll find a few of my top family board games to play and you can find more board game information and family board game ideas in the navigation tabs.

My Favorite Picks
For The Best Family Board Games

Here are my favorite picks for board games that are fun for the whole family. Of course families differ in personality and opinion but these games are pretty fun to play.

  • My top choice currently is the Apples to Apples Board Game. I’ve read about it online before but until recently didn’t have a chance to play the game with my family. Being a card playing family I was a little worried but that worry was soon gone. The whole family enjoyed playing. We had a lot of laughs as we played the game.

And it’s a simple game to play. Basically there are two decks of cards, green and red apple cards. Each player receives say 6 red cards each with one word on it. Then a green card is selected and each player must lay down one of their red cards that is similar in meaning to the green card laid. For example if the green card says “Travel” you could lay down your red card that says “Train”. Other players will try to lay their closest match too, possible one that says “Japan”. As trains and Japan are both related to travel in some way the judge must decided who gets the points for the best “Apples to Apples” match to the word “Travel”. In any case it’s a fun game and one that should be tried out at the next family party get together.

  • My second choice is Balderdash. This game is simple to play, better for older kids because you need to be able to read and write decently but it’s a fun game. In this game you have to bluff or fake out the other players. And really you don’t need to purchase this game to play it. All you need is a dictionary, paper and pencils.

Basically one person chooses an unknown, weird or funny word from the dictionary and write down the real definition. The other players write down fake definitions. Then they are picked up and read aloud. You then choose which definition is the real definition. If you guess right then you get a point, if you guess wrong the person who wrote the real definition down gets a point. Simple and easy it’s easily makes my Best Family Board Games list.

And there are many more games like these around that are fun to play. I haven’t forgotten the traditional Board Games like the Family Feud board game , Risk or Trivial Pursuit. Those are definitely on the list of the Best Family Board Games to play.

So take family game night up a notch, add a board game table to your basement game room and for a change from the pool and poker nights, have a family board game night and invite your friends and family over for a night of laughter.
