Basement Ceiling Tiles
And Finishing Your Basement in Style.

Basement Ceiling Tiles Can Make An Unfinished Basement Ceiling Come To Life!

There is a wide variety of ceiling tiles for basements. They come in various colors, shapes and sizes. By far though the most popular are the drop down ceiling tiles that are two feet by four feet and two feet by two feet in size and their typical colors are white, clear or grid patterns. And if you decide to go with a drop down ceiling then you’ll need to put up a metal grid to hold the ceiling panels.

Basement Ceiling Tiles
Are They What You Really Want?

Again basement ceiling tiles really do bring life to an old game room. You just have to make sure they’re what you want and if you have the room to add them or not.

  • First of all you need to remember that when you add a drop down ceiling it needs to be at least 3 or 4 inches down from your joists. You want the ceiling to cover your wires and pipes but also you need room to slid the ceiling tiles into the metal hanging grid. Also if you’re adding recessed lighting you’ll probably need to go at least 6 inches down for those to fit in snug.

  • With that in mind you need to make sure you have enough space between your floor and your ceiling. If you take up too much ceiling space with a drop down ceiling you may end up with a very small looking room. Billiard sticks may often poke into the ceiling and taller guests may feel uncomfortable.

  • Still ceiling tiles are easy to install, it just takes a little time, patience and a good level. The most important part is to make sure the metal grid is hanging level otherwise you’ll spend a lot of time re-leveling your basement ceiling and that’s not fun.

  • There are options for ceiling tiles besides the simple white. First of all you can paint your white tiles to match your room if you wish. That is the cheapest way. But there are other tiles out there in just about any shape, style and finish, you’re just going to pay a lot more for them.

  • And at just about every large home fix it store like Home Depot or Lowes you’ll find basic styles of basement ceiling tiles on display and you can find the tiles and the metal grids to hang them, it’s all there to get the job done right.

  • Finally adding ceiling tiles to your basement is a rather easy and inexpensive way to really change how your basement looks and get it ready for a game room, rec room or kids play area.
