Born Into The Game Room Life.
I’m from a pretty big family by current standards. I’m the youngest of 10 children, 8 boys and 2 girls. My parents had a billiard table and a few games in our basement before I was even born. That’s how I was born into the game room life and I feel very lucky for that.
Basically growing up there was a billiard table, 2 antique pinball machines (Miss Annabel and Catalina), a 1946 Rockola Jukebox with 100s if not 1000s of 78 records from the 1930s/1940s and a Japanese Pachinko Game in my parents basement. Not to mention a sticker wall and various signs and posters that accumulated throughout the years.
And actually all the games needed repair, they weren’t new by any standards but Dad could fix just about anything and he got them all working good! I know the bowling machine came home on top of my parents station wagon from Wisconsin to Michigan and I’m pretty sure he traded a lawn mower for a broken pinball machine that he was able to get working. Those were truly the good old days!
Our Home Game Room
Was The Hangout!
Yep as my older siblings grew up they invited all their friends over to play the games and hang out and I did the same thing as I grew up too. With so many kids it made it even more fun with an age gap of 21 years between me and my oldest brother. That’s the thing about home game rooms, they’re not just for the games, they’re for the atmosphere and fun times they bring to the home.
Was The Hangout!
That’s why even now it’s not just the games I love but the good times, the conversations, the competition and the occasional argument. There’s always a good argument or two in the game room whether it’s about sports or game rules, but they’re always solved, usually by flipping a coin or picking a card from the deck, highest wins!
So yes I believe the Games and Decorations are great but the Company that follows is even better! Friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, when there is a game room in your home you never know when a get-together will start up and who will show up, that is the fun part.
Why I Created
Game-Room-Decorating-Ideas.Com
It dawned on me one day as I was searching on the internet back in early 2005. There are tons of game room decorating sites simply selling the games and decorations but none really give you “Honest Ideas” that you could add to your home game room. I thought wouldn’t it be great if I could create a site dedicated to Game Room Decorating Ideas and so I did and it has taken off. I’ve only recently added forum pages where visitors like you can submit your ideas and game room photos for all to see, I think this is a great feature that other game room sites just don’t offer.

My Game Room Experience.
Well as you now know I grew up with a game room in my home and have seen many games and accessories come and go. We had the antique bowling machine, two antique pinball machines that were single player later traded and given away for two modern multi-player games. There was the 1946 Rockola Jukebox but a Wurlitzer or two passed through thanks to my brother Bill. There was the 1970s Japanese Pachinko Game (Japanese Pinball), two slot machines, tabletop air hockey and ping pong and of course a billiard table. Plus the game room TV up on the wall for watching football games, the gumball machine for the kids and the hundreds of signs, posters and stickers that went up and down over the years. Plus the exercise equipment, the super 8 movie projector (a home theater before its time) and many other game room novelties that came and went. That was how it all started for me.
And during my college years and a little after I had the opportunity to study and live in Japan for a 5 years. It was there that I saw some of the most amazing and outrageous games you could ever think of or imagine. Some of the game rooms I frequented were multi-story, between 5 and 10 stories high with various games on each level. It was crazy but a lot of fun! The Japanese take gaming to a whole different level.
I’ve had so many great experiences and good times and seen some awesome decorations that I had to create a site where I can share my ideas on what I’ve seen and heard about game room decorating. And whenever I visit someone’s home who has a game room I must check it out. Because everyone has a unique way of seeing things and decorating from their personal experiences that it gives me even more ideas to share with you on this site.
